Teacher Pet Peeve: When a student says ‘damn, you talk too much. I know this stuff already.’ Then you let them do active practice to show you and clearly the little fucker does not know half shit. Um..i’m pretty sure you’re here because you failed biology last year. Want a re-do?? Learn to listen.

A student who had not been in class for several weeks shows up one day and demands that I give her all the work while I was in the middle of my lesson. Um, sit your ass down and see me after class.

This week was especially hard. That 10 day break fucked me over. I forgot what it was like to be a teacher. Hahaha…I stood in front of my 1st period kids on Monday and it was weird seeing these 14-year olds do everything I tell them to do and get super excited about stamps. Also, it was gloomy and rainy most of the week which meant that everyone just wanted to nap/not do work/not come to school. 6th period on Friday was super difficult. I had to bribe them with tootsie rolls. So bad.

Thank god for teacher dinners with my peeps on Fridays.Talking shit over Korean BBQ and boba made everything all right. Z ordered soju for all of us, except I couldn’t drink. Friday dinner made me realize how much I miss drinking! I’m almost at 6 months of being sober. 1 more month!!!

Writing 4 recommendation letters this weekend. Holy fuck! My seniors are going to college!! :) And Max (Berkeley Project bud) is going to Grad School!! :) Yayyyy education!

School is really important: Reading, writing, arithmetic. But what they tend to do is teach you reading, writing, arithmetic…then teach you reading, writing, arithmetic again. Then again, then again, just making it harder and harder just to keep you busy. And that’s where I think they messed up. There should be a class on drugs. There should be a class on sex education. No, REAL sex education class, not just pictures and illogical terms…There should be a class on scams, there should be a class on religious cults, there should be a class on police brutality, there should be a class on apartheid, there should be a class on racism in America, there should be a class on why people are hungry, but there’s not, their class is on…gym….Their class is like Algebra. we have yet to go a store and said, “Can I have X Y + 2 and give me my Y change back, thank you.” You know?…Like foreign languages. I think that they are important, but I don’t think it should be required. Actually, they should be teaching you English, and then teach you how to understand double talk, politician’s double talk. Not teaching you how to understand French and Spanish and GERMAN. When am I going to Germany? I can’t afford to pay my rent in America! How am I going to Germany?
